Today I want to talk about one of the highest sales days I ever had on Amazon KDP…. And it wasn’t even in Q4.
It was last May and at the time of writing, was the highest sales month I’ve had to date aside from this December in 2021.
Yet, this really came down to ONE SINGLE DAY.
The beauty of it, was sort of how random it was.
I do sometimes get bulk orders of my best sellers – it happens fairly frequently.
But every now and again, I will get a huge order for books that are not my biggest sellers.
What’s more… I’ve heard, (and this isn’t something I’ve investigated to be true or false for certain) that your BSR only counts a bulk order as one order.
So, if someone orders 100 copies of your book at once, it will just effect your BSR the same as if one book was purchased.
If that is true, then it could be that some books that get regular bulk orders and are selling a tonne – you would never know!
Was This Book Seasonal?
Mothers Day in the US is at the start of May.
But these sales didn’t come in until the end of May and…. In any case, this wasn’t a Mothers Day type gift book…. It COULD have been given in that way, but it wouldn’t be an obvious choice.
Also, because of how huge the order was, it obviously a purchase by a business or company intending to sell on and in which case, it would have been way too late for Mothers Day anyway.
In any case, I definitely wouldn’t put this as a seasonal book at all.
It is definitely in an evergreen niche that could be sold all year around.
You can see below the big spike of sales that happened on May 27th 2021.
$1200 was from this single book and the day in total came to just over $1400.
This one day made a really significant difference to my overall month — I certainly wasn’t expecting to have one of my best months of sales in May, but often times KDP can really take you by surprise.
Could I Expect Another Bulk Order This Year?
I guess it’s always possible that I could get another bulk order for this book again. Depending on how it sold for the people who purchased it and how happy they were with it.
This book does now have a lot of five star reviews and so, I guess it could be even more likely now to get a bulk order.
What About That Bulk Order Last Jan?
Last January in 2021, I also had a big bulk order day, which I think ended up being over $1000.
This wasn’t as unexpected, as it was several bulk orders of books that always sell.
Actually, to me, it really looked like a catch up day on Amazon – adding on orders from over Christmas.
I can’t be sure of that at all, but it’s just what it looked like.
So, I am quite excited to see if this could possibly happen again. This one day really boosted my overall sales in January.
Should You Care About Bulk Orders?
Bulk order days can be really exciting and also turn your OK/good sales month, into a fantastic one.
Putting in some thought into creating books that could possibly be bought in bulk by companies, businesses and professionals, could really pay out big in the long run.
Consider what types of organisations may want to buy books in bulk… How about small and large business owners, therapists, teachers/schools, medical professionals and so on.
You may as well give yourself the best chance of qualifying for some of these opportunities.
Also, it lends itself to the possibility of ongoing recurring orders.
If your book does well for a company or business, chances are they will buy your book again and then you have a very profitable return customer.
Amazon KDP Is Worth It – Clearly…. BUT….
No, it’s not going to be worth it for those people after a quick fix.
Or probably for those people completely uninterested in design and creating books.
It’s also going to take a lot longer for some people who do not have prior experience with keyword and niche research and who have limited design skills.
But if I can have these sorts of days from publishing on KDP, it’s totally possible for others too.
While I started on KDP in 2019, I have books that I published in 2021 which have also started selling really well, so don’t feel that you have somehow missed the boat.
There are also types of books that are needed all over again every year, such as dated journals, planners and calendars.
While I prefer evergreen books myself, this could still be a good option for people wanting to get started on KDP.
In 2022, I’m going to try and create a few more dated and seasonal books too & see how they go.
I also want to create some more gift-related books that tend to do well in Q4.
The reason being, I had some of those type of books suddenly start selling in Q4 that had not sold at all earlier in the year.
It made me think that if I had a bit more of a catalogue of those kind of books, then this could give me an extra Q4 boost.
What types of books have you created so far…. Mainly evergreen? Or do you go for seasonal niches?
Let me know in the comments!

I am totally new to kdp. *think three days ago* I was excited to see you offer a free mini course to get folks like me started. I am signed up and hoping it will get me started with my first book. Thanks for offering such a valuable tool for newbies for free. It makes the idea of starting less overwhelming for a nursing stay at home mother of 4, who is totally sleep deprived and struggling with finding her *niche* in life. 😉

Hi there – so pleased you have, (hopefully) found it useful and that you have managed to publish your first book. I have dealt with sleep deprivation myself and certainly it’s difficult! I hope you get started and enjoy it!
