So, May was down in 2024 from the previous year and June was no different either. But this is what I’ve mainly come to expect about this year now and so, it wasn’t surprising.
In order to combat the drop in royalties, I’ve started creating more books again. Although, I’ve dragged my heels a bit with it and it has been a slow process.
Also, many of the Ads I ran initially to some of the new books did not work out for me at all…. More on that later.
Did I Reach My Publishing Goal In June?
Last month I set a goal of publishing 5 books and I almost missed that. The last two books were submitted literally after 11pm June 30th!
Surprisingly they were published very quickly this time, within 24hours.
So, I definitely want to set a goal again. However, I am going to set a goal this month of 3 books because I am going abroad towards the end of the month and will be taking a week or so off.
One of the books I did rush a little and so, I bought it as soon as it was live. I wanted to double check the pages and quality.
I was really impressed by the look of this book – it was just how I wanted it. However, a few of the coloring pages I felt could be better so, I will be updating those before I run Ads to this book.
How Did June Ads Go?
Ad spend went up because I was trying to advertise some of the new books I published. A couple of books made zero sales so I turned off the Ads.
Some of the books made sales, but the ACOS was super high and so, I decided to pause those as well and wait for some reviews. Even after switching off the Ads, these books continued to sell so, that’s promising.
One of the books still continued make no sales at all and so, I decided to improve the cover. I also updated the A+ content.
So, in total I spent around £689 or $876 on Advertising in June.
How Did The Royalties Compare To 2023?
Royalties wise, it was close to $1000 less this June, in comparison to June 2023. However it was still around $1000 higher than June 2022.
You can see the difference between the new months above.
This year I seemed to have a lot of the days that were more in the $100-$200 range.
Whereas in 2023, I had a few other higher days that were $300+. Even though I had one of my lowest days in that June, with one day being $102.
I also spent several hundred dollars more in total overall on Ads this year.

In total then, the profit was $5267 after both advertising costs and my tools. You can find a full list of the tools I use and recommend on this page.

Compare Year On Year – Not Month On Month:
When you’re comparing your months on KDP, it can be tempting at the start to compare it month by month.
It’s important you don’t do that because each year, certain months of the year are just lower than others. For most that’s the summer months.
That is why I compare each month to the previous year. That can also not particularly provide an accurate picture.
For example; looking at my Q4 in 2022 and the tend of how the months typically looked next to each other in Q4 – I thought I could predict how well December would go. But instead, it was way beyond anything I had anticipated.
Again, it’s just another example of how KDP can be unpredictable. Over time, this is just something you learn to both expect and accept for the most part.
In the meantime, working on tweaking your Ads and just creating more books over time will help… Especially when it comes to the Q4 months!
