I’m often browsing the app store for new opportunities to make or win money with Apps.
Usually, they’re pretty disappointing as far as actually making money goes, but can still be entertaining.
This is something quite different and so, sparked my interest.
With Dare App, you can take any open challenge, upload a video and share it with friends.
Once you’ve done it though, you need to get your friends to vote that you’d completed it, in order to get the reward.
**note – what I found while browsing this app was somewhat disturbing… I explain a bit further down!
Dare App Signing Up – Getting Started:
You can download Dare App via the App store or Google Play and get started right away, it’s free to download.
Simply sign up with your Facebook account, Apple or Email and see how it works.
They give you a brief intro explaining things and then you can start seeing what challenges are on offer.
When I first arrived, I saw the initial challenge below…. It says, “show how you master the ruby cube…$2.99”
Well, that would be great – I’m absolutely rubbish at the ruby cube… (ugh.. if that means Rubix cube, I was born in the 80’s…) and have never been able to complete one.
But, if you do happen to be some sort of Rubix Cube genius, like someone I happen to know is, then you could do this no problem.
The next challenge I saw was to … shave my eyebrows…. 😮 … But this was for coins, not dollars.
300 gold coins in fact. This led me to go and check out what the difference was… What did coins get you?
Coins Vs Dollars?
With this App, you can get rewarded in either cold hard cash, in the form of dollars… or some virtual coins.
But how much were these virtual coins worth and what can you buy with them?
Having searched high & low on this App for straight answers – or some info, like T&Cs… I still can’t.
When I arrived, I had 400 gold coins – which must have been a freebie perk of joining.
I set some challenges with this. But to get more gold, you have to pay. For me, (I’m in the UK) 99p you get a pile of gold.
But how much is a pile!? For 4.99, you get a bag of gold…. how much is that?…
I was a bit confused about this system and it was frustrating that there wasn’t more info available.
The good thing is, the cash out amount is very low – at $1.99. However, You do need a PayPal account to withdraw.
You need to be 18 to have a PayPal account, so presume younger kids must use their parents account.
How Do You Cash out?
Once you have $1.99 accumulated, you will be able to cash out via PayPal.
As far as I can see, PayPal appears to be the only cashout option.
I was under the impression you could also withdraw rewards? But I did not see any.
What Sort Of Challenges Are There?
When I joined, you are given the option to challenge people with ready made options.
Some of these were things like….
- Sing a song you love,
- Wear your top five outfits,
- run a marathon… (really? … for 300 gold?)…
The challenges I already saw that had been done recently, were pretty dumb.
Things like…. Lick the wall….
Lick your phone…
… Put on 10 tshirts at once.
… Show the funniest meme you’ve ever seen.
It would be good if people were doing some more interesting challenges. Maybe that will be the case at some point.
I’m guessing that people go for the easiest challenges possible and therefore, that’s what you end up seeing most.
What Do Other People Think?
This App currently has 4.5 stars on average on the App store and around 1.6k ratings at the time of writing.
One thing I hadn’t noticed, is that you actually have to pay to take a dare!
As the reviewer mentioned below, it does seem counterintuitive to have to pay to do your own dare.
The company did leave a response saying that people need to pay something in order to follow through with the dare… otherwise people just accept challenges, but don’t actually do them.
I can sort of understand this logic, but in that case the amount to join the dare should still be a token amount.
Browsing through the reviews, I did notice plenty of one star reviews dotted about.
People definitely don’t like the fact you have to pay to do the dares, (which I can totally understand).
There are also other suggestions made – such as, that this App should have a search bar.
This is something I strongly felt while on the App – the navigation wasn’t very good.
Also, several people mention the App being buggy and issues such as, not getting paid for a dare, or not being paid the correct amount.
I felt there should be a section explaining exactly how this worked on the App too, but there was no FAQ page.
