Microworkers Review: A Genuine Platform?

Is Microworkers a good site to make some extra money? Is it safe and will they even pay you… Or are they a scam?

I will try and cover all this and more, right now – in my Microworkers review.

Money-Making Opportunity: Limited/low income potential.

Overall Verdict: This is a low-income opportunity and has a lot of negative feedback surrounding it, so if you want to check it out then proceed with caution and understand that many people have experienced issues getting paid.

They also have a very strange payment system, which I will explain in a moment!

What Is Microworkers About?

Microworkers reminds me a lot of Amazon Turk.

In this case, it’s a crowdsourcing platform – which connects individuals or companies, to people prepared to do small tasks online to be completed.

Obviously, the tasks are micro and… the pay is going to be micro sized to match.

The tasks are really varied and could be anything from quick social media tasks, (likes and follows for example), transciption, checking out websites, viewing ads online.

How Much Do You Get Paid At Microworkers.

I signed up myself and took a browse at the jobs available and how much you could get paid.

Many jobs paid between $.020 an $0.50

These jobs involved things like, going to a website and taking a screenshot… really, these are things you could do in a matter of seconds, so it’s not that bad.

A few higher paying jobs included 2 for $1.25 and 1 for $2.50… see the screenshot below.

With the $1.25 job I saw, you needed to download apps and provide honest feedback. Again, it wouldn’t take that long.

Browsing through there really were quite a variety of work…

Although, I did see some things I definitely didn’t like, which I will mention below.

Admissions Test:

In order to get accepted on to jobs, you first need to take an Admissions test.

This involves reading some information about Microworkers and all the information you’d need to be a worker with them, as well as any rules, temrs and conditions.

After you have carefully read it, you can go on to complete a pre test, followed by 2 exam levels.

Both levels are important and you must complete the test in no more than 10 minutes.

Jobs Asking You To Spam:

I noticed some jobs asking you to go to blogs or forums and leave a comment, containing a link.

I often wonder why people still do this, as most bloggers simply won’t accept comments that contain links, (and are clearly spam).

I get some people relentlessly trying to leave the same comments on my blog, (with an affiliate link).

I would never accept a spam comment and even if the link wasn’t an affiliate link, a link posted anywhere in a comment is usually there to try and advertise whatever it is and 99.9% of the time, I wouldn’t publsih it.

As with other platforms, there is the risk of scams as well.

Never give out your personal information when you accept these jobs.

However, after digging a little further, I found plenty of negative feedback about Microworkers.

Negative Reviews Microworkers:

Microworkers has 1 and a half stars on sitejabber…. although, only with 22 reviews at the time of writing.

It has 2 and a half stars on Mouthshut.com… with over 400 reviews. Although, I suspect some of the scattered positive reviews could be fake.

It has 1 and a half stars on the complaints board.

The most worrying reviews claimed they hadn’t been paid for many months, or even a year in one case, (see the image above).

An issue seems to be that Microworkers say they have to post you a PIN… this has to be sent in the post and you need this PIN before they send you any money.

After this first initial PIN, they then email you your PIN the next time…..

I just find this really weird, I’ve never seen another website operate in this way and it seems totally unecessary.

Why they have this system seems completely nuts.

Anyway, the problem is, (of course) that people tonnes of people never receieve this mysterious PIN in the post and then never cash out.

Even where people have actually been paid, people complain that it takes many weeks, or months, before they do.

Real Positive Feedback?

I did see some legitimate positive feedback on money saving expert.

Although, unfortunately this was back in 2015 and not recent.

Some of the comments also contained some helpful advice for making the post out of Microworkers.

People stated that the whole PIN issue was a bit of an inconvenience, but that they were paid.

I have a lot of past experience with Money Saving Expert and believe this feedback is genuine.

Common Complaints:

There are a bunch of other reasons that people complain about Microworkers – I will outline these below.

Not Enough Work Available/Some Tasks Too Long.

There was a reasonable list of work available when I checked, but it was nothing like the amount of work available at Amazon Turk.

The difference with Amazon Turk though, is that you normally need experience on the platform to do the higher paying jobs and there is far less available to complete beginners.

Whereas the jobs on Microworkers seemed to be the kind of thing, that really anyone could do.

Some people also complain that some of the jobs are far too long and complex for the money on offer.

Personally, when I looked, most of the jobs seemed relatively short.

I would just be careful what jobs you go after and choose the ones that pay the most, for the least amount of time required!

In any case, if you’re looking for micro task work, you’ll probably do better if you’re signed up to multiple platforms.

Low Income Potential:

Like I said, there were many tasks between $0.20 and $0.50.

If they only take a few minutes to do, (which some would) then you could build that up quite quickly.

But it’s still exchanging your time for money and at a very low pay rate.

Most of these tasks are short and quick though and are preferable in comparison to some survey sites.

You could end up doing some surveys for 30 minutes and only make a dollar, (if you don’t get screened out first) so I feel like this could be a quicker way to make a small amount than many of the survey sites out there.

Getting Paid… At All?

As I mentioned, there are a lot of complaints from people claiming to have never been paid.

They may go months with their payment “pending…” and then not recieve their PIN.

But on top of this, they then struggle to communicate with the support team.

Some say they are ignored and their messages not responded to.

If you don’t get the PIN in the post, they will insist on sending it again and then you could be waiting weeks yet again…

It’s no wonder that many people must just give up on trying to get their money.

Complaints About Customer Service:

With so many of these extra income sites, there is complaints about customer service at Microworkers – it seems like part and parcel of participating in sites like this.

The important thing, is to keep trying. If you haven’t got paid, keep sending them messages, until they respond!

Accounts Closed Unecessarily?

Many people have also complained of having their accounts closed for no reason.

Often, they will say it’s because they believe they have had many accounts… This seems a common reason with sites like this and it’s possible that people do, perhaps even without knowing.

The problem with the internet these days is, if someone gets annyoed with a company, (even if it’s been their own wrong doing) they will write a negative review of the company, when it isn’t necessarily warranted.

Generally, sites will have their own reasons for closing accounts down and they’re not just going to do it to avoid paying someone.

Make sure you carefully read all the T&Cs; and the rules prior to starting work, because very often people may break them without even realise.

PROS VS CONS

PROS

• A variety of work to choose from.
• Many tasks seem quick and simple to do.
• Variety payment options.

CONS

• You won’t earn much for your time.
• Some people complain about certain tasks, which are too complex for the pay on offer.
• Some people have complained of not receiving payment.
• Work is limited.
• You have to wait for a PIN to arrive in the post, before you can get your first payment and you cannot request this PIN until you reach the payout threshold, (you may have to wait at least four weeks to even receive it!).

Is Microworkers Legit…. What’s The Deal Here?

Despite a lot of negative feedback, I don’t think Microworkers is a scam – although, there are some red flags.

It seems to me their poorly organised, has customer service issues and a completely insane payment system.

If they got rid of this whole PIN thing, I’m sure they’d have far less issues and complaints.

If hundreds of survey panels, freelance sites and other micro work sites can pay people straight into PayPal within hours or days…. Why can’t Microworkers?

I’m not sure if I’d want to put that time into this site, after looking at the feedback this website has had in recent times.
