Were There Any Surprises In July?
July was a surprise because July & August last year were my lowest months and I presumed the same would happen here.
However, July ended up being $1800+ more than July in 2021. You can see the exact amounts below.
Part of this was due to a bulk order day of a single book, on July 1st.
Did I Publish Anything In July?
I published my first book in a few months finally and also added it with A+ content as well.
Then as soon as it went live, I started to run an Ad in the US.
But so far, there haven’t been many impressions – it was an Auto Ad and I think this one could be better suited to Product Ads – or exact match.
So I will experiment with that in August…. But I have yet to sell this new book!
Another issue is that it is in a fairly saturated niche and additionally with a bunch of traditionally published books in it – increasing the competition with Ads as well as in general.
It’s just something I wanted to try out anyway and so, I will see what happens.
The Lotto Campaign update:
In the June income report, I talk about a new Ad strategy that I set up in July. You can find that income report here.
I heard about this Ads strategy from Kim from YourChicGeek –
She also mentioned she originally heard about this from Ashely from PublishwithAshley
This is known as the lottery or lotto method.
You chuck a bulk amount of random books in any niche into one AUTO Ad campaign.
You put it on a low bid & see what happens.
Then you need to spend some time tweaking and optimising.
My case was a bit more risky, because I decided to do higher bids than what is typically used.
I wanted to get more data quickly and wasn’t bothered if the ACOS was high initially, in order to get some data about which books are working.
I originally set up this campaign in the US – but found the results really interesting and decided to test it in the UK and Canada also.
As it turns out, the UK has worked out the hardest to reduce the ACOS!
However, in every country, there have been some good resultls.
The issue is, due to having so many books in a campaign, it will take a long time to optimise.
For example, if I’m going to wait at least $1.50-$2 without a sale per book and there are hundreds of books, it will take a while to reach that.
Books that may have only spent 70 cents still at this point, could still profitable if given a bit of time.
I think it could still take a month of tweaking to get the ACOS at a decent level.
However, the sales that have come through don’t account for all the sales of these books, that means running the Ad has increased the organic sales somewhat as well.
In Canada – the current ACOS is 27% and the books selling have an ACOS of between 0.25 and 13%. Some that were not selling & were spending, I switched off.
This is very slightly unprofitable right now and needs tweaking.
In USA – the current ACOS is 28%. Again slightly unprofitable. The ACOS of the books making sales right now are between 0.75 and 18%.
Other books that had a high ACOS, or have spent between $1.50/$2 and no sale, I’ve switched off.
In the UK – The ACOS is 42% and I have found this the hardest so far to optimise, with fewer profitable books and a lot that tended to overspend.
A lot of the books that had sold in the US are composition books and those aren’t as much of a thing in the UK, so it tended to be totally different books that were getting impressions. Those books also just didn’t seem to convert as well.
The ACOS for books that HAVE sold and are still live range from 3% – 16%. Some books were having a much higher ACOS between 30-50%+ and these have been switched off.
What’s My Plan Now?
I’m hoping to bring the ACOS down on all platforms. They aren’t spending too much generally, so I am happy to keep tweaking them and seeing what happens.
The UK has been a bit more disappointing but I will try and resolve that by tweaking things.
So now on to the JULY income report………
JULY 2022 LOW CONTENT INCOME REPORT:
My highest day came to – $651
My lowest day came to – $102
As you can see, it was quite an up and down month – but there were several $300 days and the big day came to over $600, with over $500 for one single book.
Above are the royalties I made in the previous year, 2021.
Overall, the royalties were significantly higher, which was interesting to see.
August was my lowest month last year and I haven’t had any major surprises yet with that so far.
You Can See My Marketplace Stats Below For July:
This month, I made my first sale in Poland.
But the main players were the usual – the USA accounting for over 30% and the USA for over 57% of sall sales.
KDP Amazon Ads For JULY:
My Canadian Ads:
My USA Ads:
My UK Ads:
If you’re not sure about Ads or how they work, you might want to check out the brief intro I did on Ads here.
Once I exchange pounds and Canadian dollars into US dollars, my approx Ad spend was:
$250.01
I then need to add on 20% VAT which I am charged on these Ads automatically by Amazon because I’m in the UK, (some other countries will also be charged this).
So, that brings the total to around $300
Other Expenses:
My other expenses right now come from the same ones I’ve had in a long while and currently that comes in at around $100 at the present time.
You can see the tools I use here – some are ones I paid for out right and others are monthly subscriptions.
TOTAL PROFIT – $300 Ads & $100 expenses = $5,986.89
But don’t forget, that doesn’t land in my pocket!
I have to pay my taxes of course and how much that is – will depend on your own countries laws and present situation.

What is the $1 charge for if the mini course is free?
Thanks.

Hi – the course is free but it automatically shows $1, (you can change it to free). But you can also change the number for what you like – completely not expected at all, but some people like to donate something.
